Pyramids and Parabolas I weaves together 16mm footage shot at the Very Large Array radio observatory in New Mexico, three ancient Mayan pyramids—Calakmul, Uxmal, and Cobá, dashboard camera footage of the 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor, and scenes from Contact (1997). Across these disparate contexts, geometry emerges as an orientation system through which humanity has sought to perceive the unknown. The unexpected arrival of the Chelyabinsk meteor situates Earth within a larger cosmic environment, where cinema offers a perceptual encounter with the forms that mediate our relationship to realities beyond ordinary human experience.
