The Sky Is Not Real turns the film series inward, shifting toward the interior landscape of the unconscious. Filmed at The Jump-Up Dark Sky Sanctuary and Ilfracombe in the Australian Outback, the film consists primarily of long takes of the southern hemisphere night sky whose duration transforms darkness into a perceptual field. Dense constellations, nebulae, and distant stellar systems produce a sustained field of attention, recalling the durational structure of Derek Jarman's Blue. Responding to Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris, the film interweaves found footage with a voiceover developed through writing shaped by the artist’s psychoanalytic inquiry. Psychic experience and astronomical observation unfold as parallel structures whose relationship is produced through montage, where consciousness becomes a means of orienting ourselves toward realities beyond ordinary human experience. If Solaris externalized memory as planetary encounter, The Sky Is Not Real internalizes the cosmos as psychic condition, suggesting that the unknown within the human mind and the unknown beyond our planet may be structurally intertwined.
